The Battle for Britain

Two outrageously-talented friends of mine, writer-producer Jorg Tittel and his lovely actress-director wife Alex Helfrecht-Tittel, have recently unveiled a splendid and intriguing new short-film project: Battle For Britain, a poignant paean to the role of Polish fighter pilots who fought in Blighty’s Finest Hour, defending the skies of Britain from the Nazis, seventy years ago.

Mr. Rogulski (JULIAN GLOVER) lives in Oxford in a house that time forgot, alone since his beloved wife’s death. One morning, he sets off for a walk to go and feed the pigeons in Oriel Square. An encounter with the helpful young Steven (Max Fowler) leads to the scooter ride of his life. Mr. Rogulski invites his new friend into his home for tea and proudly admits it’s his 101st birthday. When the old man begins to doze off, Steven does the unthinkable, leaving Mr. Rogulski the choice between vengeance or forgiveness.

Jorg and Alex’s 13-minute long film has been garnering enthusiastic notices from the esteemed likes of The Economist, The BBC and Poland’s leading newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza and is now set to do the rounds at international film festivals. Jorg is kindly sending me a screener copy of their hard work, so I’ll do a review of the complete short imminently…! In the meantime, here’s the trailer…

It’s time to glorify the young Polish and Czech pilots who overcame one thousand kilometers from the islands to fight against Nazi Germany.
Until today they live only a few, and perhaps it is not. RAF veterans with BoB is now only a dozen worldwide.
O in U.K. I never had to deal with the enemy on your land.
We lost about 6 million people.
So every 6 citizen was killed.
After WW II in Poland were murdered or deported to gulags in the Soviet Union about 1 million Polish citizens.
We are sorry for the big three that we sold in 1943 at Yalta the Russians.
Despite this, we fought on all fronts until the end of the world.

Recently, Gordon Brown or not invited to the Polish veterans parade in Russia-Putin.
    It’s damn painful.

    Time heals all wounds.

Feel free to visit the graves of your airmen who helped Polish crew volunteered in shots over the insurgent Warsaw. It was a murderous and suicidal missions.
Therefore we do not forget their sacrifice.

    Towards Glory R.A.F!
